The first day was the day spent travelling to Singapore. This was of no particular note, except that on our way to Heathrow Airport, travelling down the M1, we found our way slowed then stopped by a police car, which I have to say performed this task very well. We could see flames not much further on, and it turned out to be the fire at the Buncefield fuel depot near Hemel Hempstead. After about ten minutes stationery, presumably while a roadblock was established, we were allowed to proceed to the next exit.
My son, who was driving us to Heathrow, used his satnav system to good effect. The photos in this section were taken from his car, so are not of particularly good quality, but give some indication of the fire.
The second day found us in Singapore. Our hotel was quite plush, and very anonymous.
